How the night runs
5:00 PM
Doors open. Check in, grab tacos from the NotCho’ Taco truck parked outside, get a drink, and find your table. DJ Stixx is on all night. Not an In Good Company member? It’s $5 at the door.
6:00 PM
First deal, on the dot, across 8 tables. Double elimination: lose once and you drop to the losers’ bracket, lose twice and you’re out. Solo players are paired up at check-in.
The finals
Semifinal and grand final are best of five hands. The bracket is capped at 16 teams; after that, you’re on the waitlist.
Prize: Cash prize for the winning team.
Tournament rules
Read them before you register. Table captains enforce them as written.
- Registration closes Monday, October 12.Entry is $20 per player, paid in advance; a team of two pays $40. Non-members of In Good Company also pay a $5 entry at the door.
- Card ranking: Big Joker, Little Joker, Ace of Spades, King of Spades.In that order, highest to lowest.
- Dealing starts promptly at 6:00 PM.Be checked in and seated at your table before the first deal.
- Every game has a 30-minute limit.If the score is tied when time is called, the final hand is played out and decides the game.
- Games are best of three hands.The semifinal and the grand final are best of five hands.
- Bidding is required on every hand.
- No nils.Nil and blind nil bids are not allowed.
- Board bid (4 books) minimum each hand.
- Total team bids must equal 13.The two teams' bids on a hand add up to 13 books.
- Sandbags cost you the game.Three sandbags in a single hand, or five total over the game, is an automatic loss.
- Reneging loses the hand.
- A misdeal gets one re-deal.Each re-deal after that is a 2-book penalty.
- Shit talking welcome. Arguments, violence, and disrespect are not.Any unscrupulous behavior ends with team forfeiture.
- Issues that can't be handled civilly go to the referee.If it still can't be resolved, the referee has sole discretion on the final decision.
